I'm looking at a Mazda CX 5 at a local dealer, however took it for a test drive today and the warning message "DPF Inspection Required" came up.
Also the red warning triangle popped up almost immediately after.

Few questions:
I was told the inspection light automatically comes on when the car has been driving at a slow speed for a while or short journeys etc. and the Mazda manual says this is normal and to just drive it for 15 - 20 minutes at a speed over 20mph...
Is that correct? Should I be concerned? Does "inspection" not mean anything much as opposed to a "malfunction" message?

Also does the red triangle come on as a result of that DPF message or is the red triangle a separate problem?

Also I read a lot of comments about "do not buy a diesel Mazda"... is that fair? should I avoid a diesel Mazda or is that just a few bad experiences by those posters?

For reference the car is a 64 plate, 2.2 skyactive diesel with 44,000 miles...

Thanks for any advice...

At very least I'd walk away from that one, unless it's an absolutely unicorn spec one.

If it's throwing warnings in normal use either it's a bad car or a bad design - either way, don't make it your problem.

The 2.2 Mazda diesel is the one that keeps popping up as having issues with regen related dpf issues, oil dilution/rising oil levels and general big bill problems.

If it’s cropped up at that age already, I’d move on.

Will check out other options...

lol...ask the seller to show you in the manual where it says that warning lights when driving is perfectly normal.

I guess as it’s at a dealer it may have been moved short distances a few times and DPF has a few failed regens but even as an owner and general fan of them , I wouldn’t get involved with it personally.
