I have been using "QUANTUM PLATINUM 5W40" for my very old 2003 Golf Mk4 1.9 Tdi , PD100, that is what is in the booklet, ow Fuchs don't do a 5w40, only a 5wW30, question can I use a 5W30 ?, it seems that the PD engines are bit more fussy in what type/spec oil to use.
I'd stay with a 5/40 personally but I'm pretty sure oils conforming to vw spec 507 are backwards compatible so can be used and are normally 5/30 in my experience. I know Quantum Longlife 3 5/30 is as I've used it in my pd engines without issue.
