I have just replaced a Rover 3.5 SD1 in my Jensen Healey with a 3.9 (TVR Chimaera 4.0) long engine.
So water pump, oil pump, Edelbrock 500 on offy dual plane 360 and stainless steel block hugger manifolds as used on MGB have all been transferred. I have a SD1 radiator with upgraded X-type core and I'm running a 12" blower fan (13" body as that's the space I've got to work with). The new engine is more powerfull than the old so it's expected to produce more heat.
I fitted a high flow thermostat. She runs cool enough in free air but gets very hot in typical London traffic so I guess I need to change to a more powerful electric fan. I have no idea what the current one is but while it was man enough for the old engine looks like it has to be changed.
Anyone got any recommendations?

Cheers
Rob

It is also worth checking the fan is going the right way round (push or pull) and if it is a 12" fan it should have a 12" shroud or the airflow will bleed round it rather than through the rad core.

It's pushing as it should, It's mounted on specially made brackets right up against the rad, it was good enough for the old engine just not the new one. I know there are all sorts of CFM ratings low 1000's to 2000's but claims can be misleading so was looking for PH wisdom on something in the 2000's that someone can recommend.

A single 12" fan sounds pretty small for anything.

But always basics first.

Ensure fan passes air through as much of the core as possible..ie good shroud/ducting where needed.
Ensure as said, it operates the correct direction it is intended. Pullers are more efficient than pushers.
Ensure only cold air can pass through the radiator, and never hot air get re-circulated.

And yes, Spal make some very good fans. Get the biggest most powerful you can and ensure it is wired correctly.

Several years ago I had a 530i sport that had a seized fan on it.

I replaced it but bought 2 as it was actually cheaper to buy 2 from the US at the time.

I can't remember much about it other than it was the biggest I could fit with the highest air flow I could find.

I may still have it, but am currently away from home for a week.

The last time i had this dilemma, I purchased a 2nd hand volvo unit from ebay. A hefty old thing that usefully came with a shroud.
