Good evening folks

Hope someone will be able to help. My moon mile MK1 Tiguan 140 TDI has been ‘vibrating’ somewhere toward the front of the vehicle when I press the accelerator and am in high gears but low speed and revs. It’s like a grinding metal type noise.

From my novice experience with manual VWs I believe this is the dual mass flywheel on its way out - have attached a brief video below.

The noise starts around 5 seconds in and occurs when I press on the accelerator pedal as mentioned whilst in higher gears at low revs. If this is the fly wheel - is it a straight swap for a new one? The clutch seems fine with no slippage noted so don’t really want to replace the whole assembly if not necessary. It’s a 2007 model with 202k on the clock, albeit she had a new engine dropped in with 110k on due to a timing belt slip in a previous life.

Thanks chaps.

I can't tell you what's causing that noise, but if you're replacing a DMF it's sensible to replace the clutch & release bearing while everything is apart.

Greenv8s - thank you. I accept that I may need to do as you say and replace the whole lot.

Hopefully someone will have experienced a similar noise and will be able to provide certainty that the noise is indeed the flywheel on its last legs.
