Question - how long will fault codes store in a 2018 VW Arteon?

Overheating warning - obviously only displays when occurring but guessing it writes to a log.

Does the log work in terms of time or cycles or events etc?

Intermittent fault and keen to make sure dealer can see it or they'll just chuck the car back at me and charge a diagnostic fee.

Thanks!

I'm guessing it's the coolant temp gauge shooting towards the 130 mark and a subsequent warning about it being too hot?
And a 4 cylinder diesel engine too?

If so, they'll be no codes logged, but it'll 99% certainly need a new water pump.

They'll generally store fault codes until they're erased. I've seen some codes logged for over 18months.

I had a 2018 Audi A6, that logged all faults, a chap from Audi Assist showed me the list of them when it wouldn’t start once. There was one on the list for when it was in the body shop and they had disconnected the back door, it had logged that it had a bulb gone in the door or something along those lines.

Yep BiTDi 2.0 240. First time it happened it only went above 90 never hit the red so dealer wouldn't do anything as they couldn't get the faint to recurr.. Couple of weeks later it does if again hitting the red and warning displayed. Hopefully this means they'll fix it now.... Wondered if the fault would stay in the log for them to see. I do have pics anyway.

Pics and videos are great! Especially in the absence of fault codes.
You'd hope they wouldn't have much trouble diagnosing it if it's anything like the 1.6 and 2.0 single turbo models from circa 2013 onwards as they've forever had issues with the magnetic shutter getting stuck on the water pump.

Not had any experience of the 2.0 BiTdi model, but I would hazard a guess of the water pump being similar, if not the same.

Historical fault codes should remain unless interrupted by long spells of battery isolation dischargd/disconnected etc
