Hi Guys,

Hoping to harness the knowledge of pistonheads for a differential problem.

My Mx5 runs a GKN differential with clutch plates.

They break up easily with track use.

I would like to find a company that can manufacture the clutch plates for me. The diff is scrap when the plates break.

Anyone know a company that can do this?

Why not just fit a different make where such a problem does not happen ?

Racing regulations require a standard diff. Want make sure it’s legit. Just don’t want to continually replace rubbish diffs. It’s a 2 hour job 😂

So if you modify it then it is no longer standard ?

Gripper, 3J, DJM would all do diffy stuff.....as to what they might custom make at random, you can only ask. I doubt it would be cheap though.

It's mainly down to the shape of the tabs and the sharp transition they have on those, there'd be no real way to improve it without mods to enable a much bigger corner radius, or welding 'em in like the irish lot do

Yeah the tabs break apart. But if they piece was made of a thicker material (on the outside) it should be stronger. Just need someone to make them

If the problem is stress in a sharp corner, you may find that filing the radius out reduces the problem even though it is slightly weakening the tab by producing a neck at that point..
