Peugeot 308 2016 hdi 33,000 miles. Failed smoke test twice.

Car hadn't been run for a while. Prior to mot I took car up the dual carriageway, drove in high revs for 20 minutes. It was blowing black smoke on acceleration. Failed smoke test. Mot tester suggested I run it for a week and it would probably clear. 1 Not possible without road tax.

I removed the dpf, cleaned it out replaced it. It wasn't really clogged. I took it up the dual carriageway again, still blowing black smoke. Mot tester checked emissions while engine was still hot. Failed smoke test. Unfortunately I didn't get a read out of the emissions.

The car runs fine, great acceleration, no hesitation, starts first go. No codes showing.

Can anyone advise me on this. I can't throw a lot of money at it. I don't want to start replacing parts that are not causing this issue.

Do you know it's history?

Could it have had a cheapo back-street map done on it?

Check the air filter and entire inlet tract for blockages, if it's been laid up there could be a mouse nest etc somewhere in there.

Yes, black smoke indicates that it's running rich. Check/change the air filter and go from there.

Thanks for your responses. I don't know the history of the vehicle.

I have done all suggested.

I also think it may have had dodgy map and maybe an adblue delete . It has the older type adblue cap which I have read can be problematic. There is no adblue light showing on dash on start up and no warnings that adblue level is low.

Looks like I will have to trailer it somewhere! Thinking mobile diagnostics won't get into the system.

Any thoughts?

If you think it has had a dodgy remap, which is very possible. Find a reputable tuning place who can load as close to a factory standard file into the car and work from there

If the remap has removed a lot of an ecu's ability to report faults, it will make fixing things much much more difficult.

Thanks, it's probably my only option.
