Dreaded HGF or Oil cooler

Hi, have been racking my brains for the last week over this. Got and astra 1.6 and suddendly over the last few days. all started when i suspected coolant loss and bubbling, changed caps and thats gone now. Coolant is now maintaining a steady level but since has developed a thin layer of oil. Hasnt mixed with coolant as its clearly separated. Car is running fine, no misfires or hiccups, no dash lights, temp at 90-100. Oil cap and dipstick clear and the AC is blowing hot.

Would i be correct in suspecting that its more likely to be oil cooler than head gasket? Quite nervous as im dreading the hgf. Any advice welcome

That suggests youve got a connection between the coolant and oil systems. Nothing you'd described indicates where it's coming from so you can't rule out any of your suggestions.
