Hi everyone.

I’m new to this site and have done a lot of digging around about the TFSI engine oil consumption issue. I have a 1.8 TFSI A4 with 55k miles and started noticing the oil burning quite quickly. I had it serviced and they advised the piston rings needed replacing and as the car is under warranty the garage I brought from said they would fix the car and it would be with them for a while as it’s a big job, or, I could have a full refund for the car.

My question is how long will the engine last if the piston rings are replaced? Will I have further issues down the line and is this my chance to get a refund whilst I can.

If done correctly and no harm caused, then changing the rings won't really affect how long the rest of the engine lasts. So no real difference either better or worse.

As to whether rings alone will make any difference to oil consumption is another matter. Often bore finish as well can be the problem

So unless the bore is also getting honed too....not sure how much value rings alone would be. And it's a lot of effort to go to to only do half the job.

Is this a genuine Audi warranty, or some aftermarket thing ? I'd be surprised an aftermarket would stump up the money for such a thing when the engine still runs etc.
And would be dubious about a garage even doing the work too
