25,000 mile oil change intervals on the Jazz?
Discussion
Many thanks for the replies - I managed to speak with the dealer.
Turns out new Jazz are on what's called a variable service interval system, but as this can cause issues like mine they are going to disable it and change the oil/filter.
That leaves the car on the standard 12 months/12.5k mile service and oil change intervals going forwards which I think is much better if you plan on keeping the car a long time.

How much did the service cost?
At 11000 miles what is there to do other than the engine oil and filter.
Money and Old Rope spring to mind!
I have the 5 year service plan that Honda is selling with new cars - it appears that if you stick with the variable servicing intervals then you might only get 2 oil changes instead of the 5 you thought you were paying for.At 11000 miles what is there to do other than the engine oil and filter.

FWIW, I’ve seen oil tests on youtube that showed fully synthetic oils were still protecting within spec at 22k miles.
My VW Golf on interval servicing at 17.5k miles or 2 years or indicated by the car to go in, the manual says to use fully synthetic oil.
For fixed annual servicing, 10k miles, every year, they use a mineral / synthetic engine oil that is cheaper and less durable.
I do lots of stop start driving in traffic so switched to the fixed annual servicing as recommended by the manufacturer.
So I guess the best servicing regimen depends on your car usage.

But a variable interval service schedule WILL take into account the car usage, that’s what it is there for.My VW Golf on interval servicing at 17.5k miles or 2 years or indicated by the car to go in, the manual says to use fully synthetic oil.

I have a little Jazz for local duties, a 21 Mark 4.
It's just had it's first service with over 11,000 miles but the oil and filter were not changed.
Is this normal for new cars now?
The oil is already quite dark.
It is normal for dealers to do nothing. It's just had it's first service with over 11,000 miles but the oil and filter were not changed.

Is this healthy or a good idea ? rarely.
Perhaps even more of a bad idea on something that only ever sees short trips, perhaps lots of cold starts/stops.
But hey, it can make overall running costs appear lower.
I happily ran my car on interval when it was a weekend trip machine and it mostly spent time on motorways and fast A roads. Got it serviced once every two years because the time always ran out before the mileage. Absolutely no problems.
After the kid arrived, it got used mostly in town, doing about the same mileage. I kept it on interval, but then noticed on the MOT the emissions got worse, becoming borderline fails in the 2nd year so switched to annual, which fixed that problem. The servicing indicator remaining mileage dropped faster than normal, but with a borderline emissions fail, it was still showing 6k miles remaining.
