triple declutching.

We moved to it in 1938 and it worked well.

Hilarious, any one capable of a simple diagnosis, I only joined this site because I thought there might be some people with a bit of clue as to whether this is Synchromesh, gearbox or clutch before I ring up a garage

Is it difficult to engage first when stationary? How is it pulling away?

Sounds like your clutch is dragging.

Yep first when stationary is scarily brutal, it's tougher the warmer the engine. Hyundai I 10 2014.
The issue is inconsistent changing into second and third, which sometimes fine in first 2 minutes driving, sometimes ok on gear changes with or without a double declutch

Like gazza says, it's the clutch.

Take the car to your friendly mechanic and get him to have a look.

It might be the clutch cable needs adjusting.

so it is actually a modern car. When you talk of having to double declutch....one would expect it's something from the dark ages.

You should never need to do anything other than just press the clutch down, and let it back up again to select gears.

It should still change up pretty easily if the clutch was dragging

It would not change down so easily.

Either way, find a mechanic, doubt it would be that difficult to diagnose when they have the car

Although your post implies you've been "double declutching" for some time ? probably causing more harm than good

I have to ask but why on earth are you 'double declutching' on a modern car?

Do you understand what double declutching is?

I'm guessing your technique has possibly fried the clutch, it's a bit rum to come on a car forum, describe a fault in a vague way with no context or details about the car and expect a full diagnosis!

Maybe, maybe not. It's usually a problem on the actuation side that causes clutch drag, not the actual clutch plate, although there is a probability that the clutch has overheated if you have not addressed the issue in a timely manner.

So how long have you been doing this for?

Should not be required in a modern car.

Who ever advised you to do this should be completely ignored in the future, instead when there is an issue with your car get it diagnosed by someone competent before you do more harm than good.
