Vauxhall Corsa sri 1.4 Ticking noise

My Vauxhall Corsa makes a ticking noise between 1500 RPM and 2000 RPM in every gear when driving normally. If the car is labouring
e.g. In 3rd gear at 15mph 1500 RPM and I put my foot down firmly the noise is louder.
My local garage thinks that this type of engine (A14XER-19AK8173) is rattley and recommended Wyns "Super Charge" oil.
This has only made a marginal difference. Could this noise be "Pinking "? with E10 fuel, or symptoms of a more serious problem.

in 3rd at 15mph - not sure on the gearing of your car but that sounds like you're changing up way too quickly!

It's funny, but whenever I hear a car tapping away as it drives past when I am out and about it is usually a Vauxhall. It has actually put me off ever being likely to own one.
