Hello,

I am getting a clacking/clicking noise from under the engine hood when in idle (car is in park)

Here is the sound from under the hood

I have a honda civic 2002 with a dw16w1 engine.

Does anyone have any ideas about this?

Thanks

I haven't listened to the recording but that sort of noise could come from a stone trapped in an ancillary drive belt, or a mechanical problem such as a damaged bearing, or just an exhaust blow.

Could be a lifter/tappet/rocker, or possibly exhaust blowout, but it does sound mechanical.

Did it just appear at random, or is there some background to it ?

Sounds like a tractor but it's probably amplified by the microphone. I thought it sounded heavy at first but more like a tappet at the end.

Might be an idea to get the car on a ramp and have a listen with a screwdriver by your ear.

Sounds like a noisy tappet; do you have any service history stating when they were last adjusted?

Getting the clearances checked and adjusted would be a good idea if you can get a garage to put their ear to it in person to confirm with a bit more reliability that it’s likely the issue.

Sounds like a tapped. This is one area over looked by manny as most morder cars come with hydraulic lifter which do not need adjustment.

However u do have to adjust them on hondas..
