E350 cdi - next steps
Discussion
I have just bought a 2012 E350 cdi estate with the 265 hp engine.
Lovely family car and pleased.
The mpg is quite low for what I was expecting particularly coming from an F11 535d Touring.
Getting 34 mpg on a 250 mile / 70 mph motorway drive with an empty car. My old petrol Lexus GS300 does that and the F11 probably 45 mpg under the same conditions.
Well serviced and recent thermostat change so steady at 90 deg C.
Is it just the case, do I need to run diagnostics or would a remap return some better figures?
If a remap is the way then any recommendations - DMS, GAD, MSL, someone local to Plymouth / Portsmouth?
Thank you.

Hi - great engine. I've got a 2012 C class with the OM642.
You've spurred me into looking at a thermostat replacement on mine, I did a 320 mile round trip last week at I never saw the temp go above 80!
I still got 40 mpg though... They are not as economical as the BMW straight 6's. Even my sisters 430d cab get's better range!
I would look at the air intake 'batwing' check for any splits in the tubing, also check the orange seal that connects it to the turbo. its a replacement part and should be changed every few years.
A remap transforms them, a real torque monster. I got mine done at MSL as i'm in the northwest. GAD get many, many good reviews too and i've seen them do plenty E & C 350 cdis.
Edit - I've not seen any improvement in MPG after the remap.... probably less as i'm likely to boot it when safe to do so :-)
