Shot in the dark, but anyone know the clearance limits for a rover v8 4.6?

The LR manual reckons 0.045mm, just under 2 thou. Does that sound a little tight?

Bore wear and ovalness is also very small according to the overhaul manual.

How much of that is down to getting more engines scrapped and new ones fitted?

Sounds good to me. Piston shape will change once heated. Piston design and materials all come into play. I'd go with what the manufactures say.

2 thou seems to be the norm. One of my bores measures 9 thou oversize! Too bad it's just the one bore...

Yep.

Full re-sleeve about £1000.
Rebore and all new pistons £500.
Flex hone and rings. £100.

What to do? If money was no object then... easy answer.

You can sleeve just the one cylinder, no need to do all 8 of them :-)

Well they are all sleeved already but you can only buy sets of 8 to hat liners... I have yet to find standard staight liners for sale individually.

You probably don't need to look for a top hat liner, just a straight liner. Those are common enough.
