Hi,

There has been this weird noise from my car which started about 3 months ago. I don’t know how to describe it. Appears at anywhere below 3000 ish rpm when accelerating with about 50% throttle input. It’s fairly audible at lower speeds, if the surroundings are reasonably quiet as well, but not so much at higher speeds (above 50 mph). I have posted the link for a youtube video. I have taken the car to the dealer 3 times now and every time, they were said they couldn’t hear it. I have changed fuel from E10 unleaded to E5 Super unleaded as well, but no difference. Any help on this, as to what it could be, would be helpful. Best to watch the video with headphones. Time stamps in description. https://youtu.be/-vX6F34t368

Thanks!

Is this a two-cylinder only when low load, and the other two cylinders coming in more load?

Yes that’s correct, it normally operates in 4 cylinder mode but switches over to two cylinder when certain conditions are met (eg: between speeds of x and y mph, less than 100Nm torque needed, etc).

However, in the video, all cylinders are firing during acceleration, as 2cyl mode usually only kicks in when cruising with low throttle input.

I can’t help further.
I had once thought of getting a 1.5 TSi, but hearing the general noise of that engine, I’ll stick with my straight-six diesel!
