Volvo C30 clutch
Discussion
I had the clutch and dual mass flywheel replaced in August 21. Clutch went and garage advised to do dual mass flywheel.
Just before Xmas slave cylinder went.
The garage have called today to say that the slave cylinder has caused damage so need to replace the clutch and flywheel again. They say the parts are not under warranty as the providers say that the damage is caused by slave cylinder- therefore their parts are not defective and not covered.
Garage says they are arguing with parts provider and waiting for decision. It will take 30 days so they recommend paying and if appeal is successful they will refund. Otherwise car sits as is (half done).
Is this correct? RAC mechanic said they should have replaced slave cylinder when they did clutch and flywheel but I don’t know
Anyone here know where I stand? It is a C30 November 2009 with about 105000 miles
Odd.
If it is a concentric slave cylinder, which is very common these days, it is pretty much accepted standard that a clutch kit, will comprise of the friction related items and the slave cylinder as standard.
And as the DMF flywheel is a wear and tear item, it makes sense to do this at the same time
So given that....I would be asking why was the slave cylinder not replaced in August, and if it was, why has it failed so soon ? Where cheap crap parts fitted ? Were they fitted incorrectly leading to premature failure ? If a new concentric slave was not fitted....why not ? ( again assuming this is what is used on that vehicle, which is highly likely )
And I cannot see the slave cylinder failing posing any real issue to the flywheel itself, or even the clutch cover. Perhaps the friction disc if it got covered in fluid though.
Pics of said items might help to see what actually happened
