Knackered Citroen 1.6 VTI diesel engine

I've just noticed this problem with my wife's 2007 1.6 VTI C4 Grand Picasso.

She mentioned it was smelling a bit in the cab of fumes, so I took it for a drive.

There's a horrible tappy noise coming from the engine, and it's smoking. Don't know why the video is on it's side. It was shot landscape.

On switching the engine off, there's a high pitched whine.

Only audible at the beginning of the clip.

Any ideas? Aside from the noise and smell (duh) it's driving fine. It's going to the garage on Monday.

You need injector seals /copper washers replacing , whine is normal on these engines . Go to a good garage or diesel specialist or it can cost a fortune if they damage the injectors getting them out because they are stuck and don't know what they are doing .

Don't leave it. Leaking injector seals on these engines causes oil sludging which leads to eventual turbo failure.

Can you explain how ? i do these every week and combustion gas cannot get into the engine , the injectors are in a sleeve through the rocker cover .

Oh the Black Death. Design was fine, execution not so great.
