Hello,

I have some slight rust to remove from a 2.9 block (Ford), picture below......I have seen some people using a big oil stone or others using an air gun with some form of mild abrasive pad.
The block was cleaned previously - but has been sat waiting for me to save some cash for parts.......hence now has some very mild surface rust I would like to remove.

Appreciate your thoughts and also any recommendations of where to get 'kit' from and a rough cost.

Thanks,

Chris

Get some 400 grit wet n dry wrapped round a flat piece of wood, don't use it wet.
Rub it backwards and forwards.
Don't leave bare ferrous metal to rust ever again you silly boy.
End thread.

It's rather a non issue.

If you really wanted it shiny, take it to a machine shop and have it decked. But that would really be overkill...although it would also ensure the surface is flat for the gasket

Failing that, if you have a large flat block, like an oilstone or something, some fine wet/dry paper rubbed gently in long strokes over the surface with some WD40 or oil as a lubricant, will clean it up.
Whether it's really worth any effort or not is another matter. It will serve no real purpose making it shiny

As above, non-issue.

It certainly won't stop a HG from sealing.

If you REALLY want it clean I would personally use a scotchbrite pad as w/d paper is more abrasive.

Linish with a flat block and 240 wet/dry applying WD40 first, I have done this many times before.
