Tickford Turbo Capri new ECU Suggestion's
Discussion
NEW MEBER first post. I have a Tickford Turbo Capri that I have had since new in 1985. Let me down the other day for the first time in many years. First time a rescue since the late 80`s It looks like the problem is in the original AFT ECU. This is an early ECU designed back in the early 80`s also used in the Ford escort 1600i. After all the usual testing could not get it to fire up. I have now fitted an original Durospark unit that comes with the standard 2.8i Capri. This gives me a running car, just have to stay of the boost, now looking for an ECU to control the timing and fuel. Some years ago some or the cars were converted to Micro Dynamics 3 / 5 ECU units, they are long gone. In ECU terms this is not rocket science, Only have speed taken form the flywheel (this can go as could be the week link) Vacuum and temperature from the inlet manifold. Additional injector for increase fuel (this is a jag xjs injector) mounted in the inlet manifold. I have copies of the mapping of the AFT ECU. Sorry its a bit of a long tale. Any ideas please? Finally just to add I am no longer in the UK but in Western Spain, so access to ECU specialists is limited.

Is the original not repairable?
Most ECUs of this vintage are pretty basic inside using a lot of through hole etc. so generally pretty repairable. A good local electronics shop will likely sort it for a few quid.
There was one guy in the Isle of White but he retired Nobody interested in these units no quantity to set up a rig to test and repair Tried Germany as well. Most ECUs of this vintage are pretty basic inside using a lot of through hole etc. so generally pretty repairable. Bailey Performance in Ironbridge.
Ask Dale to put her on megasquirt and set it up. I did exactly this with a Lotus Carlton. Modern programmable ECU's with a good rolling road session yields great results and a smoother, faster, more efficient car.
Be prepared to throw some much newer and better injectors in as well
Tell Dale that Matt sent you.
You really won't regret it send the car there on a trailer. You could likely get it there and back for a couple of thousand, then another £2k on the work and you'll have a fantastic Capri
Thanks will keep that in mind but probably if I have to will send it to Madrid or BarcelonaAsk Dale to put her on megasquirt and set it up. I did exactly this with a Lotus Carlton. Try www.ecutesting.com they tested and fixed an Alfa gta ecu for me for a very reasonable amount of money.

I had a an auto electrician trace a fault on a 2001 JDM Import Toyota Levin to a component on the ecu. He repaired it for me.
If you open up the ecu, the problem might be obvious.
Thanks have re-soldered anything that looks like a dry joint and the connector, wires but no luckIf you open up the ecu, the problem might be obvious.
