I'm needing a bit of help, I have an engine out for a volvo 480 turbo, bit of a rush job as I was focusing on changing the transmission.

After I had got the engine out I had an afterthought - "change the belt while you have the engine out, you'll never get this kind of access without needing babyhands again"

Trying to find a motor factors that does not search by model of car, but by the tooth count and width of the belt as the car is so old.

Crux of the post is, does any other car use a 124/5 toothed belt that's 19mm wide please? Was hoping to pick a belt up today, otherwise I will just throw the engine back into the car and have to change the belt later annoyingly.

Didn’t they use a Renault, (or Renault based) engine?

What was it, a 1.7 8v turbo?

If I am correct, then I’d assume that R5’s R11’s, R25’s etc might have had the same belt.

if it's from a 480 turbo, surely just look for a belt for a 480 turbo ? But yes, I believe too they used a Renault engine

And as well as length/width and tooth count, there are different tooth profiles.

Not that hard to search for really.

I believe the factory used a Gates 5130XS timing belt.
Gates gives a list of other cars that used the same belt.

O'Reilly parts stores have a search by dimensions option.

Then there's the only time I'll use amazon to cross reference parts. (Scroll to about half way down to see the other cars it fits.)

You really need a kit, especially if the cam belt runs the water pump.
Tensioners can fail too.

^^^^ Wot 'e said.

Pulleys & water pump need doing at the same time.

If not, the failure of any of these WILL wipe out the nice new belt & wreck the engine you are trying to protect.

Not forgetting the crankshaft oilseal, and while you've got the gearbox off, pilot bearing. And as your replacing the coolant, a fresh thermostat and radiator cap would be a good idea. And don't forget fresh gearbox oil. Did you say you'd replaced the clutch? Is it cable or hydraulic? A new cable or fluid wouldn't go amiss while you're down there.
