Saw one of these today at Haynes. It's got a transverse Ferrari V8 in, naturally aspirated.

I was trying to work out the induction path as the air intake goes into the middle of the Vee first, under the inlet plenum, then it comes back out before going through the throttle bodies and into the inlet plenum and down into the engine.

I couldn't work out what is under the plenum, in the valley of the engine.

It looked almost like a blower of some sort.

If you look at the photo, you can see the central hose goes from the air filter into the valley below the plenum and the intakes to the plenum also come from somewhere down the side of the engine?

Yeah, that picture is missing the gubbins that sits under the plenum, as was the car in the Haynes workshop.

I did find this picture which shows maybe an injector pump and some other device. The air goes into the black thing at the top and then back out into two hoses up to the plenum.

Maybe its a big air flow meter? Pre-hot wire MAF?

looks like an old jetronic style injection system with maybe the flap style metering head ?

Yeah thats it! Bit like the flapper that Rover SD1's used to have. When the plenum is on, you can't really see all that much, just some big chunky casting sitting under there with loads of pipes on!

Interesting engine in that Thema. Transverse V8. Kind of bonkers. The guy at Haynes with one has another in their body shop.

Isn’t it a Ferrari engine but with a burbly 90° crank instead of flat plane?

Doesn't it also rotate in the opposite direction to the normal Ferrari engine?

Lancia did their best to package that - would it have been pre-3D CAD too?
Hats off to them!
