Sooo my GTi is going through some crazy stages of engine trouble, I've had it in and out of an approved VAG specialist garage that much I'm loosing count of cost!
The issue is so far found that there is loss.of compression across all 4 cylinders, all around the 120 mark! I've had lam senseros, cam sensors, turbo actuators changed, the code the engine is giving is a run a run ruich fault and miss fire across cylinder 1+4!
VW told me there is mass carbon build up,which I now no there isn't as the current garage has taken the inlet manifold off to place cameras up to check for this and any valve damage but that's all good! So they want to take the head off to check the pistons and rings! There is a but here,

I have declined that due to the fact of the issue of the car when running! So when running it's problem is that it doesn't idle very well and when neutral is selected then it's really bad and can often cut out!
When driving the car you can feel the missfire through gearing up and down, also at certain times when geared down the car is backfiring quite badly! Like it's pushing too much fuel through and burning in the cat! The other but is that this is also a very intemittent problem! It can take days for this to happen at a time yet the engineight stays on! Also as a small note when it goes into its mad fault mode the engine light flashes on and off??

Now I'm at such a loss with this as is the garage, they haven't specifically identified the issue here also!

I really need some help and advice here like insaynim at such a loss with this issue and it's becoming a massive money pit!

If you have low compression then that needs to be sorted out before anything else.

Is there a difference wet/dry?

Have you had the next obvious step done, as in a leak off test?

As this is the garage doing this work and not myself (not that I could either) I'm not so sure on the compression wet or dry mate? I no when the mechanic who took it home one night to feel what the car was doing when the fault kicked in he done a compression test and then again back at the garage in the morning? As for the leak off test I've not a clue either? Is that to do with the injectors?? If so there tell me the injectors are fine and sauirting fuel in with no issues?? Like I say pay I'm so lost with this and I'm going off what I've been told by the garage so far?

First, it sounds like whoever is working at it are idiots firing the parts cannon as usual.

A compression test where all cylinders are effectively the same and of a value you say, simply suggests to me that either the gauge is faulty, or they do not know how to perform a compression test

what was the history leading up to any problems ? standard car or not ?

Yeah I've been feeling the it's this and that part for the last few weeks as it's been in and out 3 weeks on the trot now it's this so called cylinder issue or listin rings which allmsounds a bit suspect to me!

So the car has been re mapped previous to all the problems occuring but the car was wrote off 2 years previously but was only body damage!

The problem I've described has been gettin progressively worse over the last 3-5 months!

The compression results do come across as strange to me also! Just nothing makes sense with this issue and with it being intermittent I do agree it can be a tricky one to locate. I'm just being lead on a merry dance now and the help I need to locate the issue is not being met by such approved garages and is becoming a massive money pit in the process

So car is perfectly fine prior to a remap....has a plethora of problems after ?

And who remapped it ? Dave down the back alley ?

One starting point would be to return the ecu to 100% as it left the factory, as there are far too many aholes flashing all sorts of st into peoples car, often removing any ability to report fault codes etc.

And then find a garage who can actually diagnose faults properly.
