One of the guys in the office is contemplating an MG ZS 2.5 V6 or 1.8. Now theres all sorts of doom and gloom storys about the K-series 1.8 4 pot engine but does the V6 have the same reputation or is it a much better idea?

Not heard anything bad about the V6. the 1.8 only really gives problems in the Freelander where it's hopelessly overloaded.

The only prob we had was with the crank (I believe) sensor which sometimes made it difficult to start, but apparently most of them were changed under warranty.

Mechanicaly they are very good.
The only proble I'm aware of (and I had it on mine) is the Vacuum Inducation System Valves sometimes fail.
These are the ones that automatically vary the inlet tract length.
Symptoms are excessive induction noise around 3000rpm and lack of power/response.
Easy to change though.

I've got a ZT 190+ and its been great so far. Its done 47k in just over a year and the performance now is MUCH better than at even 20k.

Touch wood - no problems at all so far.

It sounds great too. Nice engine.

Car Mechanics Magazine mentioned them this month, can't remember what they said but they did mention a couple of problems.
