Fiesta 2018 with a sad gearbox?
Discussion
Had my partners Fiesta idling in the drive and noticed it sounded like a bag of spanners, a bit of closer examination the sound is coming from the gearbox.
Quick video of the sound followed by the sound going when my partner presses the clutch.
As the car was approved used when bought my first thought was clutch but I don't think it sounds like a DMF failure.
Anyone any experience?
I thought the 6 speeds were supposed to be quite tough.

Are you sure it has a dmf ? normally if the noise goes when depressing the clutch its the release bearing. Are you 100% sure its gearbox too, its not coming from timing belt end is it ? The oil pumps seem to fail on these.
As I understand it I think the later 6 speed gearboxes do have a DMF ( early 5 speeds solid) but there isn't much about online. Its absolutely coming from the box end.
It is just under warranty fortunately, was bought at 18 months old with 26 or so thousand on it from Ford. My partner has a fairly hefty commute so the miles that have gone on it are largely all from pounding the M6.
Sounds like a failed bearing to me but I guess will know more when it goes in on Friday.
Clutch itself is absolutely fine, drives perfectly so hopefully they don't really have any way of claiming its user error but we will see.
So this was "repaired" back in April.
Took them about a week.
Ford chappy on desk never really told me what was replaced apart from "a bearing".
Fast forward to a couple of weeks ago its doing the same. I think its done about 3 or 4 K of motorway miles.
Ring them up and now as the car is out of warranty by 2 months they wont touch it.
Case is with ford now to see if they will contribute.
Got to say as service goes its a stinker.

Ford want over £500 now to even look ( for labour to part the box and the car would be away rom us for over a week) at it to start the investigation.
Without the initial investigation CS wont action any potential contribution.
Anyone got any ideas what to do next? For 500 I could prob get it all repaired private anyway.
Abysmal is not the word.

A further update.
Want around £500 for the investigation and £20 a day for a hire car for upto two weeks on the basis they may help out with the repair.
Not sure I want them to touch it as the previous "rebuild" lasted about 5 months.
Like the car but that service is abysmal.
Guess I just have to take it to someone competent now and bend over?

I'd get a warranted used box from a breaker, get a local garage to fit it if you're not capable of DIY. Slow time, I'd strip the original to see what has gone wrong. Bearings aren't expensive. Keep this box as a spare if you have issues again in the future.
