What can cause compressor surge in a TD? As its a diesel I can't have a DV, It does sound good but I know it can shorten the life of the turbo. Its not a problem as I can live with the nice fluttering, I'm just curious.

Does it have a throttle, or variable guide vanes? Diesel's don't always run unrestricted all the time.

Throttle body yes but no way to wire in a dump valve to serve a purpose, you can get the electric ones for diesels but they sound ste and makes the engine performance drop. Won't have variable guide vanes, they'll be fixed like all other car turbos, variable guide vanes are on gas turbines right?

You're asking what can cause compressor surge. Those things can. I'm not suggesting you add any of them.

Chances are it does have variable geometry vanes in the turbo. VAG have been using that technology for over a quarter of a century now as I'm sure other manufacturers have.

What makes you think it is surging?

Release the throttle at low revs and it flutters, sounds like it's chopping the air.
