Hello all,

Normally sitting in the shadows just reading however post when i need advise. Ive got a 2.0 mondeo mk3 the 130bhp euro 4 edition and the injectors shat themselves yesterday according to the AA.

However im a little hesitant with their diagnosis as it didnt sound like injector noises when it went. There was a loud bearing noise so i switched it off and on again and it went got to the end of the road it kicked out a ton of white smoke and cut out it still runs but on 3 cylinders. Theres a slight ticking noise and no engine light however the code did say injectors according to AA but not which one failed. My first thoughts was either the turbo or an EGR issue but the codes arent generally wrong.

Looking at injectors im thinking of replacing all 4 if it is the issue and is it worth for power gains to replace with 2.2 injectors and a remap which i had planned anyway or just put standards in. The cars almost on 200k miles and ideally i want to keep it going with the subtle power increase. I know i might aswell just get a 2.2 but im intrested in what i can get from this 2.0 engine.

I appreciate any advise and im sorry this is such a long one.

Get a proper diagnosis from a competent and reputable specialist.

All injectors don't just suddenly fail with no prior symptoms etc.

Have you filled it with the wrong fuel or something ?

AA said its just one injector but not showing which one hence the misfire, he checked they all still have codes i think but this is way out of my mechanical knowledge.. its never had wrong fuel in my owning and only symptom was random stutters of power but nothing hugely notable.

Before even looking my main thought was the turbo bearing due to the noise it started making.
Plan was if one injectors gone ild replace them all for peace of mind. Im no where near a mechanic and just know what i do from research.

Plans on giving it to a garage that works on diesel taxis constantly but trying to find out a bit more before dumping it on them.

With little tools or knowledge, there will be little to find out, other than a trusted reputable garage.

You could have the injectors removed and tested before going further.

But it shouldn't be too hard to determine which cylinder is not firing correctly...or at least one that is substantially worse than the rest.

Do I remember correctly that to supply, fit and code one injector is ~£300 to a Mondeo? And you want to do 4...?

That sounds about right, but first find the best local deisel specialist you can and get them to diagnose it properly. The average AA man can sort changing a wheel or a battery, but don't trust them beyond that.

Ill get it to a specialist but im not completely mechanically dumb just not great with fueling, change wheels / batterys and other little bits myself. Not long ago it had a turbo actuator. Plans to take some injectors from a lower mileage car just have garage fit and code them. Hence why i asked about the 2.2s as im aware they might fit depending on the code on them.

EDIT: trying to do it cheap and well as moneys tight but i want a good job done.
