i had come across a car spec of a VW Golf 1800 carb engine, with the following mods. I wish to confirm this info from the more experienced petrol heads here.

Side drafts (Weber) 40DCOE
Valves (8) taken from a M3 BWM pre 2002
Cam 288
Dry sump

Claimed output on the engine is 96kw (presume it to be about 115Bhp?)

I do not profess to understand all about an engine but i do understand about refraction in the combustion chamber. The question I have is, if this info i have added here is true or partly able to reproduced, what type of experience awaits me? Does this mod sound like a true production?

At the end of the day i have a 1800 VW 1989, carb with 79000 miles on the clock with full history, i wish to remain std as possible with the most output.

With all the possibilites around, i thought come here first.

Any help is most wanted.

ps those that read about the ceramic block i wanted, that idea has been shelved, well lets say my bank account said NO, no no.

so back to the drawing board.

115Bhp from that kind of modified engine dosent seem much to me, especially as the standard gti 1800 has 112 bhp.

My old PB coded 1.8, yes i know its supposed to be injected fitted with the single downdraught weber made 120 bhp and 144ft pounds of torque one hot afternoon on the rollers.
And that was with the standard cam, pistons and crappy carb manifold, but it did have a 4 into 1 exhaust manifold amongst a couple of other subtle mods...
