This has been covered before. Any loss of performance is usually due to problems elsewhere.
Incorrect mapping being the most likely, as it isnt optimised to suit the modification.
Others will say you need backpressure depending on cam choice. IMO that means you have the wrong cam, not that you need backpresure.

Thats what backpressure does to your engine; Restricts its breathing abilities, therefore it is bad.

I don't want to get into this one again, but that isn't quite what was said. The arguement was that backpressure can be used to tune the performance characteristics of an engine to suit a particular use.
