Rover V8 engine problem on 14CUX system

Ok,
New to all this forum stuff but here goes.
I have an off-road racer with a 4.5 JE V8 running on a 14CUX efi set-up. The efi set-up is pretty much as per a standard rover hot-wire set-up except I think the chip has been changed in the ECU.
My problem (One that is now starting to drive me round the twist!) is this.
When first started the engine runs perfectly, but then after about ten minutes use (under load, not sitting ticking over). It dies intermittently when given a bootful.
It does not misfire, it is just like you have taken your foot off.
When it first starts doing it, if you just lift off a bit it will usually recover, and if you can get the revs up, it will be OK, until you go to change gear then you have the same thing all over again.
The warmer the engine (and surrounding components) gets the worse it becomes, until eventually it becomes very difficult to drive.
I have checked the obvious, coil, dizzy cap, leads, amplifier module on dizzy.
I am wondering if anyone might be able to tell me the effects of a dodgy throttle pot or airflow meter???

Mine does this when the throttle pot is disconnected. Try disconnecting yours, if it doesn't make any/much difference I would suspect that is the problem. In that case the next step would be to do a resistance check from the ECU multiplug.
