Detroit diesel (trucking), Tecumseh & Briggs&Stratton (lawn mowers etc.)

Did you want to limit this to only road vehicles?

If not, I want to say Mariner marine (outboards) but I'm not sure about them as they might be a sub-division of another company.

Also Evinrude (outboards) and Mercury marine (inboard & outboards) can be included with Mariner.

The parent company of Mercury & Mariner also makes boats under the Quicksilver brand IIRC

Yes, he meant Perkins Engines (where I used to work) which are owned by Caterpillar who make Diggers, Loaders, Truck engines, Marine Engines, etc.

There are very few engine only companies, but there are plenty of companies that sell engines on their own. Some others Iseki, Yanmar, MAN, Navistar Intl, John Deere, Wartsila-Sulzer, Rolls Royce Bergen & W H Allen, Grande Motori Trieste.

really, i never knew they were still producing - for i thought rolls-royce would have acquired them by now!

addendum - an how about companies that just make gearboxes... ?
for i read that Allision is such a company, tho as theyre owned by GM, they arent exactly an independent supplier, which is what i'm asking about here.

btw - i think in the past, there was once a british equivalent company called Burman?

I think Allison may still be in existence but I’m not sure. Loads of companies for really small engines like O.S., bigger aircraft engines from companies like Lycoming - Textron.
