When injectors have been taken out of the engine ive heard that they are best stored submerged in fuel,is this right?

Not heard this before but it makes sense, if you leave them dry they could either corrode or you could get a residue of dried petrol on them, both of which could make them stick or block when you come to re-use them.

Probably makes sense not to let them dry out, but I suspect you would want to have them cleaned anyway before you reused them.

Ive left some lying about for quite a while. Never had a problem.
Ive used injectors bought from scrapyards, where their engines ahve been lying about....never had a problem...

Unless they are actually lying exposed in water or something, I wouldnt worry too much. Just keep them clean and fairly dry wherever you store them.

I've had a second-hand injector not work due to being gummed up with petrol varnish.

I fixed it by applying 3V to the coil to keep it trying to open and forcing acetone through it with a bicycle pump.

I'd reckon that flushing them through with acetone or isopropanol or something similar that doesn't leave any residue when it evaporates, then storing them with the ends capped would do pretty well.

The main problem with removed injectors is the O ring seals swelling or splitting. I always replace the seals when refitting, but I'd imagine there are a fair few people who'll just bang em back in.

Petrol gumming could be an issue, but less likely to cause a concern with modern additives, any layers of gum should disolve quite quickly when the clean petrol contacts it.
