Hello all,

Running a car with a repackable silencer... i've measured it at 105dBspl and i'd like to get it down a dB or 2 to be on the safe side at the next trackday.

Anyone ever repacked a silencer? Anyone know the probability of reducing the sound pressure level as a result of repacking... i'm worried that i could end up making things worse (i.e. louder) by not getting enough in if you know what i mean.

Also any supplier names would be good.

Cheers

Tim

Biggest mistake is to pack it too tightly, the gasses need to *EXPAND*, pack loosely and re-pack often. A tightly rammed packing is no better tha a straight through pipe. If it's a big silence and expansion chamber part way down will help.

Thanks Chris,

Been doing a bit more reading and came to the same conclusion... Think i'll buy a roll of wadding and take it with me in case i get pulled up by the noise police on the day (at least i will be see to be making an effort).

Will fully repack after when i've got time to sort it out when i balls it up.

Cheers for the advice

Tim
