206 was catastorfically loosing oil, took it to Peugeouts turned out the oil was coming out of the cylinder head gasket and will cost me £430 (!!). Left the car with them yesterday morning, they called an hour ago and said it wouldnt be finished till tomorrow (??). So, 3 days to fix the head gasket? or does it really take that long? Can some one please help?

I would be much happier yes I took it to a garage near my place of work which is about 20 miles away from where I live. So far I have spent £40 for taxi getting home and back to work this morning I am not really looking forward to wasting another £40.... But I guess there is not a lot I can do..
Do you by any chance know what caused the head gasket oil leak? Appreciate your help

My point was that surely £430 of work is going to take some time.
ignore this if it's too basic, don't intend to patronise
The gasket is basically the seal between the block and the head. There is some farily high pressure stuff going on between the 2. The head needs to be supplied with oil and water (there are chanels (holes) in the gasket for this as well as the holes where the pistons go)
The gasket can faill in a number of ways:
if it fails between a water and oil chanel the oil and water will mix (you get a mayonaise like deposit all over theplace)
Between a water chanel and combustion chamber, you get water loss
Oil chanel and combustion chamber, huge plumes of blue smoke out of the exhaust
Can also leak to atmosphere
etc
If the engine has overheated the head gets very hot and tends to warp, obviously as this happens the gasket fails, the gasket can also fail without the head warping. In either case it is prudent to take the head to an engineering shop and have them check it for flat and skim it as required
Your car has wet liners which throws up other problems but it's so long since I worked on one I forget the details, I think it's got something to do with the water chanel seals at their base
Have a look at howstuffworks.com they tend to explain stuff pretty well
Welcome to PH by the way

OK, i was just informed that the car might not be even finished tomorrow and surprisingly nobody can give me an update on the work being carried out......
Thanks for your patience and warm welcoming to the PH
Another blonde question: Is there anything else that can go wrong? I mean could the failed head gasket have caused anything else to fail which I am not aware of yet?

Well, there's lots of fluids in a car including engine oil, gearbox oil, coolant, brake fluid and powersteering fluid.
Also, does your car have air con? On humid days the pipes can condense, casuing water to form a pool under the car. Just make sure it is oil and not just water.
If it's engine oil, then start with where it's dripping from and work your way up until you can't see/feel any more oil. That'll be the source. If it's leaking between the head and block of the engine (about 2/3s up), then the garage that changed the gaskets needs talking to.

Important thing here is to check the oil level. Any guarantee on the work will be void if you let it run dry
Check it today and tomorrow if the level is going down then have a word with the garage (and explain how much oil is being lost)
But it could be coming from anywhere and may not be a problem with the work done
And to re-itterate check the oil level

Yes, I have been a good girl and kept checking it on saturday evening, twice on sunday and this morning Its ok, doesnt look like im loosing it after the repair. But I had to top it up every morning to the max level before I took it to a garage. The level was down about 1 cm by evening.
