Blue smoke during DPF regen
Discussion
Hi
Had a nightmare the last 2 months with DPF on my Vauxhall insignia.
Went into limp mode, booked into local garage after AA diagnosed a DPF sensor fault. Sensor replaced at garage yet fault would not clear. New DPF fitted along with new EGR valve.
After this I Noticed it was doing regens every 100 miles with blue smoke coming from the exhaust during the regen, no smoke when not in regen mode and to be honest drives perfect other than this blue smoke.
Booked it into Vauxhall’s who advised the after market DPF sensor was not being expected by the ECU. Vauxhall DPF sensor fitted along with a new exhaust temperature sensor. Still doing regens every 100 miles with blue smoke so back I went to Vauxhall who advised it’s the after market DPF. Not convinced I took it to another garage who advised they fit after market DPFs all the time and have no issues.they checked the soot levels which were at 40%. No faults were shown on the diagnostic test. I am concerned there could be another reason for the frequency of regens. Been keeping an eye on oil levels and they are normal over the last month so it’s not burning oil.
Anyone have any ideas what’s going on?
Thanks

Blue smoke is oil. Even a small amount getting into the DPF will clog it up, forcing more regular regens and working harder...taking life out of it as well.
Confused that no oil level issues, but has the oil usage increased at all? A small amount being at such high temps will cause a fair amount of smoke.
Also, it is more obvious when it's cold outside?

Hi I know this is an old post but did this issue get fixed? I had my DPF and EGR valve changed and have had blue/white smoke billowing out the exhaust during regen cycles ever since. The smoke is accompanied by a sound just like a blowing exhaust.
Since then I have changed the turbo and the DPF vapouriser and the problem still persists. Don't appear to be losing any oil.
It's doing regens every 40 - 120 miles. Ive spoken to two mechanics who are both at a loss as to what the problem could be.
Any help here would be wonderful, this sounds like a very similar problem to the OP.

I am experiencing the same issue, got the DPF replaced, neutraliced EGR, changed oils… did you manage to solve it without neutralizing the DPF itself?Since then I have changed the turbo and the DPF vapouriser and the problem still persists. Don't appear to be losing any oil.
