What about a larger intercooler and better pipes for to connect the intercooler to the turbocharger - a smoother, less restricted route?

If you turn the boost and fuelling up I would hazard a guess that exhaust gas temperatures would increase (hotter inlet air because mass flow rate is increased + extra fuel) maybe more smoke if you give too much extra fuel. Standard air filter is restrictive as is the crap exhaust system.

My suggestion would be:
1 change exhaust system to a single absorption silencer of 2 to 2.5" nominal bore, change air filter for a K&N in standard box (to ensure supply of cool air).
2 do the intercooler and piping thing
3 fiddle with fuelling and boost
