Hi.

Finally getting to fit my twin 40's, but while 'trial' fitting them, i've found that the dipstick gets in the way! If i remove the dipstick then the carbs will fit, but the outlet for it is only 10mm or so from the manifold. How do I get around this? It doesnt need to be moved that much, but I dont know how I would go about it??

Thanks a lot, Greg.

Umm, not sure I have the confidence for that - anything else I could do?

Cheers, Greg.

if memory serves, its an interference fit on those tubes. that being the case, can you rotate it to give the dipper clearance? failing that, LC's suggestion is a fair one. the only other 2 options are to move the 'bung' down the stick and shorten the tube by the same amount. or, cut the dipping end off the stick, shorten the tube by the same amound and apply molegrips to give you back some indication as to where the oil level should be.
whatever you do, make sure that the revised stick gives you a true indication of the level! best way is to dip it, modify and dip again. if it matches, youre in business.

If it a hammer, just bend it.

Just been out to the garage to have a look at my Tiger Supersix, which is fitted with a 2 litre Pinto and twin 40 Webbers......

The dipstick shaft has been carefully bent to the right, about 15 degrees, so the dipstick handle just clears the right hand carb...........

I could post a picture if it would help.....

Thanks for the answers here guys, was curious as to why it would be in the way, but I suppose it wasnt really designed with twin carbs in the way. Pinto is in a Mk2 Escort btw.

Picture would be great! Not sure how I'd go about bending it though, if I cant twist it around. I dont have any means of applying heat to it, and it does seem a bit fragile to hit straight with a hammer.

Thanks a lot, Greg.

You should be able to bend it by hand easily. best get a tetanus shot first A guy in c&sc did this same thing when fitting twin webers. cant remember if it had photos.

Bit late with this, but here goes..

Had a few Pintos with twin DCOEs and you do have to bend the dip stick tube to suit, but it's simply a case of grabbing it at the top and gently pulling it to where you want it. It's only small, thin wall tube so it's no great effort.

Thanks for all the replies lads. Still not got around to trying to bend or rotate it, but sure one of them will work.

Cheers, Greg.
