Here's the situation: I have a four cylinder bmw m10 engine. Everytime I start it up I get the oil pressure light stay on for between 5-20 seconds. I've taken the lid off the oil cap and oil flow is clearly visible after the light has gone out. I'm not sure what's causing the problem but I think it could be the filter (mann filter) partially emtying itself back into the sump.

I've also noticed that when pulling off at low revs as soon as the clutch starts biting I hear a dull rattling/knocking sound (aroung the same frequency as the revs) until the revs get higher any ideas what the possible cause could be?

Try using a genuine filter, I've heard that the cheaper pattern filters sometimes don't have the one way valve in them which prevents the oil draining back.
Got to be worth trying for the price of an oil filter.

The rattling noise could be a broken or loose torsion spring in the clutch disc. Usually happens when the clutch has been dumped agressively.
