Anyone got any ideas on this:

My Mondeo V6 constantly puts out white smoke from the exhaust (always has, now on 66k, but worse). It puffs away at idle, seems to clear a bit with some revs and really puffs at high revs/gear changes. It does it in all weathers, too.

Now, I've put my hand over the exhaust when it's doing it and my hand is dry and free of oil with no discernable smell. There is no blue colour to the smoke. The car does not appear to be using oil or coolant and when I take the cap off the coolant expansion tank, while the engine is running, there is no apparent pressure.

I would have said it was water vapour, probably a head gasket, but the facts don't seem to add up. I also have a noisy power steering pump, but that must be sealed from the engine, so no fluid could escape that way, right?

Ours does put out some steam for a very long time from cold pretty much all the time but you wouldn't notice it when the weather is warm. Is the temperature gauge showing any over heating?

No, there are no apparent side effects to this at all, the engine seems to run nice and cool. I'm just concerned as to what is going on.
