Been looking at a TVR with this box in it - mechanically sound but noticed a bit of a crunch when going into 2nd quickly. Probably liveable with meantime, but how much would it cost to fix if it bugged me too much?
Cheers for any help...

Try an oil change. It might surprise you what a difference it can make.

Ask around for opnions, generally they are filled with ATF, but others have had good results with conventional gear oils in the past.

I cant recall if I ever used it in a Rover box, but Ive had good results in other boxes with Castrol Syntrax gear oil. In crunchy Subaru box's it transforms them

regardless of condition, the rover box( LT77) is often crunchy going into 2nd or 3rd especially when its cold and / or your're trying a fast change. Castrol 75-90W oil helps quite a bit but it'll still do it to some extent.

Just had mine rebuilt by Bernie & Co at Competition transmissions. Cost me £192 +VAT.

I removed the box and delivered it, they charge £95 +VAT for labour plus whatever parts they use. I'm well pleased with the price & service.

If you end up needing to change the box, the later [very similar] R380 box from the Range Rover is better.
I agree an oil change could improve things quite a bit.

Would an oil change help my problem of getting it into 4th? Its very stiff and takes a good pull into gear to get it to select??
