I was just wondering, if the engine is shutdown when an airbag deploys, does it disable the motor completely or can you start it again straight away and drive off? (assuming the damage is minor)

the engine management is seperate from the airbag system.in an accident the engine will stop because the fuel cut off switch has been tripped.if you press it to reset, the engine should start again (barring any other damage!!)

How do you find the fuel cut off switch?

Should be listed in the manual somewhere.

Some airbags talk to the engine ecu, usually over CAN, to tell it that is deployed.

You may need to have the engine management ecu reset.

What car is it?

Once the airbag has deployed the car can still be driven as mentioned earlier as long as the fuel systems safety circuits havent been tripped.

The inertia switch is usually somewhere out of the way, but also easily accessible if needed.

I have seen them mounted in the drivers footwell or in the passenger front door pillar.
No doubt they differ from model to model just to make it difficult for you and me.
