Janspeed Rover V8 turbo
Discussion
A friend of mine has recently install a Janspeed single turbo 3.5 V8 into his Landrover. The engine seems to run OK but need setting up to suit the needs of an offroader rather than the road based set up it has at present. Things I need to know:-
1. How is the boost controlled? At present it makes about 4psi but only at higher revs, which is no good for an offroader, I need to know if it can be set up to produce loads of boost ( i.e. torque ) at low revs at the expense of top end power. My brother has a 5cyl Audi quattro which is set up like this, peak torque is at 1950rpm from there the torque drops to a nice plateau across the full rev range. I know boost on this car is controlled by the Motronic ECU, don't know if the rather crude Janspeed can be tailored to do the same.
2. There is a 9th injector just before the throttle body that seems to be triggered by a pressure sensor on the plunum, but this is not wired in at present, dores anbody have a wiring diagram for this setup so we can get it running.
Any other information about the Janspeed setup would be appreciated.

It's pretty old hat nowadays. They used to use a microdynamics ems5 ignition unit which is fairly good. I quite like it. It was triggered to restrict boost by a hobbs switch screwed into the plenum. Some versions also had an rpm limiting hobbs switch as well. The hobbs switches are pressure switching units. Look for something round and white about 1" in diameter which is screwed into the intake manifold somewhere. They ran low boost because the engines were on stock c/r.
You could fit an adjustable switch and see if that's better.
