dellorto/weber pinto manifold?
Discussion
hey guys, can anyone help out with a quickie question?
ive potentially been offered a pair of dellortos (sidedraught - the ones that are like weber 40/45/48's) and know that sourcing a dellorto manifold might be tricky. i do know however that physically the carbs are very similar to the aforementioned webers so can i just use a standard DCOE manifold for my pinto? are the carbs interchangeable?
thanks for your help,
yours, with crossed fingers,
paolo.

The carbs should fit the manifold ok, but it's not as simple as that. Have you thought about how suitable or otherwise they may be for the state of tune of your engine.
You will not be able to jet them up as easily as Webbers; you can get anything instantly for a Webber carb and jet it to run on any engine, so think carefully before committing yourself.

Yes, DHLAs have the same flange pattern as DCOEs so will fit the same manifold. However, as IOLAIRE says, spares not so easy to get, but probably find ads for the in classics mags.
Practical Performance Car magazine is just doing a series about sidedraught tuning, so worth getting a copy of that too.
Actually, excellent mag so worth getting copy anyway.

thanks for the advice guys. youre probably right, weber DCOEs would go just nice on a pinto, but these are on the table right now so im tempted to give them a go. theyre off a lotus elan of a little smaller capacity than my 2 litre pinto, but my 3 litre DGAS thats on it currently is hopeless below 2.5k which is what im hoping to rectify. (as well as generally crap running )
by my estimation the air flow through the carb should be similar (ish) between the two engines, but yeah, i know this aint gonna be as easy as it sounds.
having said that though, im willing to give it a go! if it doesnt work i can always go back to my old weber.
