I have a water leak on a TX4 taxi (with the 2.5 VM engine) but I am at a loss to find it. Its losing around a litre every 2 hours but there is absolutely no sign of a leak anywhere. I have just replaced the header tank and still it leaks. There no water in the oil and no smoke from exhaust.

Any ideas guys as even the garage are struggling with this !

You're saying it is a leak...so from this you must know it is leaking externally somewhere already ?

or are you saying it is losing water but cannot find any traces of where externally, which could imply internal losses, eg head gasket or head/block issue ?

So the obvious response from that is it is losing it internally.

Pinhole in the rad when it's heated up can easily mask a leak as the water will boil off as it leaks out.

That's one of many reasons, best get it to a mechanic and have the coolant system pressure tested.

Have you have a proper look everywhere when its nice and hot?

Hand while it's being pressure tested, get them to do a sniff test as well.

Hi guys.

A quick update on this. The head gasket has failed and water has mixed with the oil. This is a sub 70k milage vehicle which has only just turned 2 years old and is serviced on the dot, the last just 2 weeks ago ! Good job its still fully warrantied as I suspect a new engine will be needed.

Its VM 2.5 diesel although the latest ones are 2.8 versions ! The service agent has not seen a head gasket failure on this particular model before. Just my luck I guess !

If thats the same VM 2.5 that was fitted in Range Rovers and the Rover 825d then they are well known for head gasket problems and in quite a few cases also damage the liners requiring liner replacement.

Same issue. However no coolant in the oil. Could it be finding its way into the exhaust
