Does anyone have any knowledge with these on tuning, or hybrid turbos, boost etc? I will be looking for one soon and it must be the twin turbo model which makes 450 hp standard

Er, eh? Is there another RS6 of which I'm not aware of that isn't a twin-turbo 4.2L V8?

Or go for the one from the RS6 Plus which has 480bhp/413lbft.

Yes thats it. I have now found a 2yr old, 19k miler RS6 engine with turbos, all ancilleries and ecu etc for £3.5k A veritable bargain me thinks. Superchips can up this to about 500hp, but I have heard from our friends over the pond that 800hp is releastic with a pair of hybrids and money spent.

Any info appreciated.

The standard RS6 details are here

Or, indeed, the MTM Tuning one that has 568bhp (at a cost of a mere £14,875 on top of the donor car )

Wasn't there an ultra extreme RS6 featured in EVO that was putting out 900-odd bhp?

Thats what I was told and what fuelled the quest. If anyone has details of that 900hp monster, or knows which edition of EVO it was in, that would be very helpfull.

Cheers

Best I can find from the EVO website is a report from August '04 on the MTM Clubsport which looks like the car that I thought was 900-odd, but it seems to be 580bhp. (see here )

There's also a report from Aug '03 on a 536bhp conversion from MTM here

Full list of EVO articles on the RS6 can be found by going to www.evo.co.uk and typing 'RS6' into the search facility and clicking on 'Go!'

i get EVO every month and i have never seen a 900bhp RS6. these are good engines though, and for 3.5K they are a steal. got and pics off the unit (inc turbos and manifolds). could make a very interesting Ultima or Cobra engine, especialy if you can get a reliable 650bhp from it!

thanks Chris.

As I hinted at in my previous post, but obviously did not say explicitly enough, I think I may have been mistaken and it was in fact 580bhp.

Edit: And having re-read the review of the MTM RS6 Club Sport (via the link I posted in my previous post) I can confirm that this is definitely the review that I read in the paper edition of EVO and mis-remembered.

Edit2: More on the MTM RS6 Club Sport here

(Under the "better late than never heading I think)

Go to www.rs6.com and click on "Community". There are loads of people on there with various RS6 in assorted levels of modification.

I'm sure you could get 800+bhp from the engine, but I doubt the transmission would take it. Not the sort of thing I would want to drive as a daily runabout either. I think it would take a bit more than a Superchip (*shudder*) job to give good usable power.

Hi Mike.

Thanks for the heads up. No intention of going with stock transmission, has to be mid-engined/rear wheel drive like the Ultima. Even the trusted G50 series has limitations at that torque and that box satisfies most requirements. I have spoken to the Uxbridge crew and they tell me the same as you. At the moment I am 'considering' a Toyota/Lexus V8 with a couple of turbos, or even a truck engine in the form of a Viper, but with a blower. Its a matter if cost per bhp really and at the moment I am just weighing up. The RS6 is viable beacuse its 500hp for about £4k. The Toyota/Lexus is still being debated at 300hp and £900 plus the viability of turbo-charging it, which as yet is an unknown quantity. Once again, any info greatly appreciated

I figure I have a few months before I have to commit on my chosen route, but it is getting a little confusing when there is so much new technology on offer. As for living with a daily driver, an Ultima is not your best friend for the daily commute, but if its fun who cares?

Looked into this when I was thinking bout a replacement for the modded RS4. Speak to Keith at Dialynx.

First of all gearbox wise, he has already replaced the RS6 box with a manual version, so rear/mid engined applications shouldn't be a big issue.

The engine itself runs twin MAFs on Motronic - bin that for Motec and bigger injectors.

The twin intercooler are far too small for high end applications, so bin them for one larger intercooler mounted in the rear, and replace the cooling sytem for twin rads either side.

As for turbos, hyrids would be one solution, but a better one would be twin Garret GT28R's - these are quite small turbos but can still flow 350bhp each at quite low boost - @1.2bar.

As for crank and rods - they should be ok for 600bhp, maybe get them Cryo frozen to be safe, but the pistons should be ceramic coated. This will allow the engine to create as near to the turbo rating as poss, as you can really get some big advanced timing without detonantion, even on Optimax + Millers and not race fuel.

When I put a budget together last year, inc the cost of engine/box, about £15k should do it for a reliable 650bhp - which is considerably cheaper than the 'normal' Audi tuner offering.

Good luck, and can I have a drive?
