Evening gents,

I am a mech eng student who is part of our Formula Student team, our cars are 600 bike engine'd (and box'd) single seaters for a brief description.
I am in a predicament with an old ATB quaife diff that we are transfering to our new car.

The diff is from a Fiesta RS turbo application as i believe this is the smallest that quaife produced at the time.
I found that in our car (RWD) the diff did not have enough slip by far, I was not aware that the slip was adjustable in the ATB's.
However, today i had ours apart. In the centre there are 6 slightly conical washers, these are retained by some splined inserts that sit inside the central 'wheel' that is not splined, but the planetry gears sit around it in 'cups'.
Does adjusting the orientation of these washers adjust the slip allowable by the diff?
Also i found that one of our spined retaining inserts is now in 5 pieces and looks to have been for some time. Anyone dealt with quaife directly before? Are they reasonable with spare parts. I believe this diff is discontinued in the UK but the US quaife site states that they still use a fiesta ATB derivative for radicals.

I am also still unclear as to entirely how the ATB diff works. If anyone is particularly clued up and has the time could you try explaining it to me please.

Many thanks,

Adam
