C'mon Mike, you've run plenty of Jags.
Surely that thing will drink like a Nissan Micra by comparison!

As for the looks - I can't see much of the engine. I'm not into this (fairly) modern trend of covering up the interesting (oily) bits with stylish cowlings - too much German cleanliness for my tastes!
Plus you have to pay the mechanics for the extra 30 minutes it takes to take them off and put them back on again whenever they do any work on it.

True bob, it drinks like a girl compared to the jag.

By god though it goes like stink.

Still got the XJR - S?

It'll look damn fine in a mid engine british made junior league supercar with a couple of turbos strapped to it.......but then again I could be talking complete rubbish

Well, I must admit I am a bit gobsmacked. Around town / pottering around it is managing 19mpg at least, and on a run 30mpg....This is slightly bonkers as my 523i was using more fuel for the same runs

Apache, you have knowledge of this engine, do my figures make sense to you? If so it is nigh on unbelievable for a 4.4 V8.

Yep, I certainly have! And what with the kind of motoring I'm doing at the moment (stop, start - cold mornings etc.) I'm getting about 12mpg out of it.

Still I think I'll start using my little eco-friendly runabout soon - The TVR!

Isn't it about time you bought yourself a nice TVR S?
You can justify it now as an economic neccessiity (it worked for me)

Bob, that's a top result 12mpg, top man.

Also, I agree, an S2 or S3 would hit the spot. However I now have a porsche 944 plaything which is nearing completion and is a hoot, I just love the 944 shape, even though it is 80's personified...(along with an audi 80 tdi reality vehicle). I would like a tivver, and will have one when funds permit.

Wonder how much I would have to add to the porker and audi for a decent S3? Completely impractical of course, but I have never been a logical bloke.

All I can say is .....it will happen

I don't mike but have seen old 540i computers showing these figures, for the performance those figures make my old 3.6 look a tad poor

I get 18mpg around town and ~25 on run - 30mpg if i take it steady.
That cover comes of in 10 seconds by pressing the four little buttons on it. Trust me, it looks realy boring underneath and you will put it straight back on.

I've got a BMW 4.4 V8 and Tiptronic box in my Cobra..........26 mpg cruising at 95 mph down to Le Mans last June !! 10 mpg more than the obsolete American iron normally used in Cobras......

And yes it does go like stink in a 1100kg Cobra, with the engine cover attached of course, but with the Cats removed.

Cheers,

Tony
