Guys,
Im thinking of getting a Vauxhall vectra diesel as a run around.
I seem to remember someone posting on ehere that there was a common major problem with the 2.2 Engine.
Can anyone shed some light on thi sfor me
Cheers.
A lot of them suffered from very heavy oil consumption IIRC.
I am by no means an authority on this matter, but from what I have understood the problem of heavy oil consumption has affected, as suggested, both of the old school Vauxhall diesels, and quite possibly those of other manufacturers. I cannot remember if these cars were supplied with fully or semi synthetic oil from the factory, but this at least contributed to the high oil consumption. The main problem was that the cars were not driven hard enough when they were new, and as such had a tendancy to glaze the bores. Have a read of 'What's bad' on the 2002 onwards Vauxhall Vectra from the following site: www.honestjohn.co.uk/index.php?url=/carbycar/index.htm

The 2.2 can also suffer from AMM (Air Mass Meter) problems. Same engine in the 9-3 Saab. I have no problem with oil consumption, but at 73K miles the AMM went. Luckily it was still under warranty, as they are damn expensive to fix.
Not the best diesel going, but 45 mpg and plenty of torque from 2000rpm.
