What are the opinions of the best place for the air intake for a mid engined car ?
It would be simple to take the intake down between the engine and the rear bulkhead and fit a nice big air filter so the engine would be breathing nice cool fresh air from underneath the car. But as the car starts moving faster would the air traveling underneath the car become significantly lower pressure ( as in the ground force effect on f1 and gp cars ) or would it just come flooding into the engine bay ?

IMHO I would mount it as high as possible in the speed positive pressure area and where it will get cold air. That could be on the top, or at the sides drawing air in either behind the doors - or the door windows - like on a 6R4.

Drawing air from under the car will more than likely cause problems with water and dirt.

If you start from scratch you model the pressure on the body with speed and select a point that gives least negative pressure, or if regs / looks allow, put a scoop up high to get air at positive pressure in.

It's also important that the air from the front is managed, so if there is a radiator outlet that the air gets dispersed to the sides, otherwise it is only going to heat the intake air.

A complicated business....
