Idler valve issues

Im posting this on behalf of my brother who is having problems with his Vauxhall vectra.

Basically whats happening is the engine is dieing when stopping at traffic lights etc, the car is also idling extremely badly. from cold the issue isnt too bad for the first few mins, but then it does it again. also the engine warning light is coming on intermittantly.

Any advice or thoughts greatly appreciated!

try cleaning the idle control valve - it may be all gummed up

I had similar symptoms on a Cavalier when the camshaft speed sensor died.

Thanks for the help so far! I dont suppose anyone has any diagrams of the strip down proceedure for the cleaning of the parts, and also where the part is located on the engine?

managed to remove the part and remove all the crud on saturday with my brother, and it seems to have done the trick!
